How to read a mobile game review without getting fooled

Not every glowing review is honest, and not every low score means a bad game. After years of writing them, I've learned to spot which reviews are worth trusting — and it's mostly about specifics.

A useful review mentions concrete things: how the controls feel, how often ads interrupt, whether it drains your battery. Vague praise like 'stunning graphics' and 'endless fun' usually means nobody played very long.

Watch for balance. A reviewer who liked a game but still names two or three annoyances is far more believable than one who found it flawless. Real games have rough edges, and honest writers admit them.

I'd also check when the review was written. Mobile games change fast with updates, and a two-year-old glowing take might describe a completely different game than the one you'd install today.
